Playing the Way to Visual Storytelling and Idea Generation
“Play” is often dismissed in adulthood and is viewed as immature and unproductive. Yet, it is a powerful tool for design and communication.
Co-organised by Design Spectrum, IDK delivered two workshops on the theme of “Designing through Play” in October and November. Both workshops incorporated the LEGO® Serious Play® Method to inspire participants to “think with your hands”, highlighting two important aspects of Design Thinking: visual storytelling and idea generation.
The first session was Led by Kit Wong, certified LEGO® Serious Play® facilitator, to explore the power of visual storytelling through play. Throughout the interactive exercises, participants expressed their personal thoughts with the help of LEGO models, visualising their insights in a tangible way to create effective dialogue while also deepening reflection process.
The second session focused on how to generate ideas via play. Led by Stanley Ng, one of the first LEGO® Serous Play® practitioners and trainers in Hong Kong, participants were challenged to explore different possibilities to create a better working environment. Through the hands-on and minds-on brainstorming process, countless ideas were generated in the forms of LEGO models, as a collaborative effort in solution finding.
