Embracing a Future-oriented Mindset Under the COVID-19 Pandemic
The Universal Community Testing Programme has recently been the talk of the town. While experts are finding ways to maximise the effectiveness of COVID-19 screening, solving such lingering problems in the times of uncertainty requires a future-oriented mindset.
To promote wider adoption of design thinking in healthcare, IDK partnered with CUHK Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care to provide a 1-Day Design Thinking Workshop for its Health System Leadership Programme. Medical professionals from both public and private sectors came together to explore how design thinking can optimise the efficiency in identifying and tracing COVID-19 in local communities.
Divided into groups, participants were introduced to six distinct user types, and challenged to bring innovation in identification and tracing of COVID-19 for these user groups. Supported with interactive exercises, participants were encouraged to employ an empathetic approach to dig deep and look at innovation opportunities on personal, community and medical system levels.
The groups came up with ideas that had considered their user groups’ hopes, fears and even daily routines. They acted out the solutions as believable scenarios that were viable, feasible and desirable, taking a proactive and human-centric vision for the future of the healthcare system.
