Redesigning Social Innovations for the Future

How will our society look like in the near future, and what are the social challenges that we will face, urging us to be more proactive to overcome via innovation?

The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) has been Hong Kong’s key player to ask such questions and providing solutions across the city’s different social sectors. To support their missions, Institute of Design Knowledge (IDK) collaborated with HKCSS again in an interactive workshop, aiming to brainstorm new ideas with its colleagues to look at directions for driving positive change in a number of future social topics.

With topics such as social inclusion, care for carers, and digitalisaton of social services, participating social servants were introduced to how the concept of design thinking can become a vehicle in designing more future-ready, human-centric social services. They were guided through the design thinking process to learn how to identify core needs, innovation opportunities, and realise ideas quickly with prototypes. Essentially, empathy and creativity will continue to play key roles that help us navigate uncertainty, overcome complex challenges and lead innovation to tackle future challenges.
