Empowering Young Local Design Talents for Entrepreneurship
It is never easy for young designers to start their own firms and pave their ways to entrepreneurship. To empower Hong Kong’s design talents, the Design Incubation Programme (DIP) and Fashion Incubation Programme (FIP) of Hong Kong Design Centre organised the “Design Entrepreneur Day” in June to support local designers to develop their careers.
In this event, IDK co-organised a Design Thinking workshop to inspire 40 young designers to embrace an innovative way of thinking and apply the knowledge into their own business planning. Participants were first introduced the power of empathy through an interactive exercise of innovating based on user experiences, instead of from the point of views of a particular preconception of product or service design. They then formed groups to solve a design challenge by designing an innovative product or service for a specified target audience. In the process, not only did they devise a human-centric solution by considering the hopes and fears of their end-users, but also proposed and pitched respective business models that gained the support of potential investors and customers to help their business sustain.
